Hello,

I am attempting to print to a wireless HP Smart  Tank 7600 series printer from a RDP session that has an OS of Windows Server 2022. The print redirects seem to work because the job actually gets through to the printer on the local side but keeps giving error in the print queue.

Would anyone have any idea why that might be? Maybe driver issue?

We have troubleshoot the printer's connectivity itself and it prints just fine locally. Just doesn't follow through with the print job from the RDP session

Hi @DCarmonTHS,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

There are several potential reasons why you might be encountering errors when attempting to print from an RDP session to a wireless HP Smart Tank 7600 series printer. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Driver Compatibility: Ensure that the printer drivers are compatible with Windows Server 2022. Sometimes, drivers designed for client versions of Windows may not work properly on server editions.
  • Driver Installation: Install the printer drivers directly on the Windows Server 2022 machine. Sometimes, relying on driver redirection from the client machine can lead to issues.
  • Printer Redirection Settings: Check the RDP client settings to ensure that printer redirection is enabled and properly configured. You can find these settings in the Local Resources tab of the Remote Desktop Connection options.
  • Printer Spooler Service: Make sure the Print Spooler service is running on both the client and server machines. Issues with the spooler service can cause print jobs to fail.
  • Network Connectivity: Verify that both the client and server machines have proper network connectivity to the printer. Ensure that there are no firewall rules or network configurations blocking communication.
  • Printer Status and Error Messages: Check the printer's status and any error messages displayed on the printer control panel or through its web interface. This can provide clues as to what might be causing the issue.
  • Update Firmware and Drivers: Ensure that both the printer's firmware and drivers are up-to-date. HP often releases updates to address compatibility issues and improve performance.
  • Test with a Different Printer: If possible, test printing to a different printer from the RDP session to see if the issue is specific to the HP Smart Tank 7600 series printer or if it's a more general problem with printing from RDP sessions.
  • Event Viewer Logs: Check the Event Viewer logs on both the client and server machines for any error messages related to printing or RDP connections. This can help pinpoint where the issue is occurring.

By systematically going through these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with printing from the RDP session to the HP Smart Tank 7600 series printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
