HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - E710n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I changed my internet company.  When trying to change Network Name (SSID) on printer wireless network setup I get message indicating unable to connect.  The print report shows ...........  More than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network name (SSID).   I can't figure it out.  Please assist. Thank you.

Thanks for the responses.  I think the key issue/problem is in the message on the diagnostic report indicating that more than one access point/router has been found that matches the wireless network.   There is only the new router with the SSID I list in the wireless network setup.  I am at a loss.  Thanks again.

@jft26, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When your HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer encounters issues connecting to your new network due to multiple access points with the same SSID, follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Identify the Correct Network:

  • Confirm the correct SSID (network name) for your new internet setup. If it matches multiple access points, consider changing your network SSID to a unique name to avoid confusion.

Access Router Settings:

  • Log in to your router's configuration page using a web browser. This usually involves entering an IP address provided in the router's manual into your browser's address bar.

Change SSID Name (if needed):

  • In the router settings, locate the wireless settings section and change the SSID to something unique, ensuring there are no other networks with the same name within range.

Printer Wireless Setup:

  • On your printer, navigate to the wireless setup wizard:
    • On the printer control panel, touch the "Wireless" icon.
    • Touch "Settings", then "Wireless Setup Wizard".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select and connect to the correct network with the updated or correct SSID.

Verify Connection:

  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report from your printer to ensure that it has successfully connected to the correct network.

By changing your SSID to a unique name and ensuring your printer is connected to the right network, you should avoid issues with multiple access points.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the response/info.  I was still unable to connect to the new network.  I wound up connecting the printer to the network via ethernet cable.   Though I would prefer the wireless connection, it works with the wired connection.

Hi @jft26,

Thank you for your response

Since the wired connection is working, let's try resetting the Wi-Fi settings on your printer to give the wireless setup another shot. Here's what you can do:

Restore Wi-Fi Defaults:

On the printer's control panel, go to the Wireless or Network menu.

Find the option that says Restore Network Defaults or Reset Wireless Settings (the exact wording can vary).

Select it to reset the Wi-Fi settings back to factory defaults.

Reconfigure the Wireless Connection:

Once the defaults are restored, go back to the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer’s control panel.

Follow the prompts to select your new network and enter the Wi-Fi password.

I hope this helps.
