Reconnecting to home network after being connected to another wifi network (HP Envy 4500e)

After having our printer connected to our home Wi-Fi router for years, we took it to another house and connected it to their internet/Wi-Fi. Returning home, we went though the Wireless Setup Wizard and tried connecting to our router. Entering the WPA-PSK printed on the router has failed to connect repeatedly. What are we doing wrong?

If not on an Instant Ink subscription, you may just want to print directly to the printer and bypass the router entirely. 

Wi-Fi setup video. Method 1 is for Modem or Router connection
and Method 2 is for Wi-Fi Direct when you do not have access to the modem / router, or want to bypass it.

1. From the Home screen on the printer display, select Wireless Direct.
2. In the Wireless Direct menu, select Wireless Direct, and then press OK.
3. Using the buttons to the right, select On without Security, and then press OK.
4. Press the button next to Display Name to display the wireless direct name
5. If you have enabled security, press the button next to Display Password to display password

Factory reset video or just follow the steps below.

1. Restore Network Defaults:

   • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status menu.
   • Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless Settings menu.
   • Select Restore Defaults and confirm your selection.

2. Reconfigure Wi-Fi:

   • After restoring defaults, press the Wireless button again.
   • Select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect your printer to your...1.

3. Alternative Method:

   • Press and hold the Wireless button on the back of the printer for about 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks. This will reset the Wi-Fi settings2.

On page 56 of your User Guide, it walks you through how to turn on the wireless direct. The title of the section is “To connect wirelessly to the printer without a router”. For reference, on page 17 it also has a section titled “Print from a wireless-capable mobile device”.
