This printer has defied all attempts to get it to reconnect with WiFi and now will not operate properly with an ethernet connection. I want to get it back to "out of the box" settings and reconfigure it. But how?

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that you want to restore the printer settings to factory settings.
Follow these steps:-
- Restoring the printer to factory defaults will remove all settings and functions previously set up on the printer.
- With the cartridge access door open, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Power buttons for at least three seconds.

Thank you SANDYTECHY20. I am engaged in a running battle with several other non-HP-related issues and when I get done with those, I will certainly try what you suggested. It looks like it is just what I was trying to find.

Just to close this out, here's what happened. Following the instructions in the User Guide resulted in a yellow light in the delivery tray, a yellow light on the right side of the top corner, and a flashing "E" (error warning.) Tried numerous ways to clear all this (including pulling power cord and finally hooking back up with ethernet cable to router) with no success. Time now to go buy an Epson and recycle this HP.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

Thank you for attempting to help on this issue. In regards to any further contact with me by HP, too little too late. I have junked the HP printer and am sending it to recycle. Since I have work to do, I needed a printer now. So I bought a Brother, installed it in about 30 minutes, and that puts "finished" on all this printer jazz.
