I bought a new router and need to change the Wifi settings on my HP Office Jet Pro 6978 printer. Wireless settings is locked by owner and the Reset Network Settings is greyed out. How do I restore my printer to factory settings so I can connect my printer to the Wifi network again. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Latlt4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To restore your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer to its factory settings and unlock the network settings, follow these steps:
1. Restore Printer to Factory Defaults
Turn on the Printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
Access the Control Panel: On the printer's control panel, press the Home button (the icon usually looks like a house).
Go to Setup: Navigate to Setup (it might look like a wrench or gear icon) on the touchscreen.
Select Tools: In the Setup menu, select Tools.
Select Restore Defaults: Look for an option that says Restore Defaults or Restore Factory Defaults. This option may be listed under Printer Maintenance or similar.
Confirm the Reset: Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm that you want to restore the printer to its factory settings.
2. Reset Network Settings (if Available)
If the network settings are still locked after a factory reset, try this:
Access the Network Menu: Go back to the Setup menu.
Select Network Setup: Find and select Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
Select Restore Network Settings: If available, select Restore Network Settings. This option should be available if the network settings are not locked.
3. Manually Reset the Network Settings
If the above steps don’t work and the network settings are still locked, you might need to perform a more thorough reset:
Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer.
Perform a Hard Reset: Unplug the power cord from the printer and wait for about 60 seconds.
Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
Retry Factory Reset: Follow the factory reset procedure again from the control panel.
4. Update Firmware
If the network settings remain locked or if you experience any issues, ensure that the printer’s firmware is up to date:
Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
Download and Install Updates: Download the latest firmware update and follow the instructions to install it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
