I recently purchased a BT Business Smart Hub 3. Whilst my HP Envy 5530 recognises the router neither the WPS nor the password works. BT helpline told me to contact the printer’s service provider to confirm the required open and closed ports. On my printer the ports are not numeric so consequently don’t work. Please can you help?

Hi @Ludanum,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

It sounds like your HP Envy 5530 is struggling to communicate with the newer security protocols on your BT Business Smart Hub 3. This typically happens because the printer uses older 2.4GHz wireless standards that can be "blocked" by the router’s advanced firewall settings or its attempt to merge different frequency bands.

Adjust the BT Hub wireless settings.

  • Open a web browser on a computer connected to your BT network.
  • Type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar and press Enter to access the Hub Manager.
  • Log in using the admin password found on the back of your router.
  • Navigate to the Wireless or Advanced Settings menu.
  • Locate the 5GHz band setting and temporarily turn it off, leaving only the 2.4GHz band active.
  • Change the Wireless Security/Encryption mode from WPA3 to WPA2-AES.
  • Save these changes and restart the router.

Reset the Printer Network Defaults

  • Turn on your HP Envy 5530.
  • On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon or go to the Network menu.
  • Select Settings.
  • Scroll down and select Restore Network Defaults.
  • Confirm the selection to clear any old, conflicting connection data.

Connect via Wireless Setup Wizard

  • Return to the Wireless menu on the printer screen.
  • Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your BT Network Name (SSID) from the list of detected networks.
  • Enter your wireless password (case-sensitive) using the on-screen keypad.
  • Wait for the wireless light on the printer to stay solid blue, indicating a successful connection.

I hope this helps.
