Safe retiring of printer

I’m retiring my 2542 hp deskjet.  Is it safe to recycle if have printed tax returns and other confidential items?  Do I need to dismantle or remove parts?

I understand you would like to know if it this safe to retire your printer without dismantling it.

The printing device utilizes non-volatile memory to store system control data and user preference settings. No customer print or copy data is stored in non-volatile memory.
