Office Jet 9010 Pro 9010 will print wirelessly from Win 11 PC. Printer and PC are on same network printer is wireless, PC is ethernet to same router.   PC won't communicate with printer when trying to scan...also printer won't communicate to PC when scanning from printer.  Downloaded the HP Scan Doctor and started thru it.  Scan Doctor finds the printer and then I select it and then scan doctor wants the "printer's user ID and password.  Where/what is this password?

Any help on the ultimate problem (scanning) would also be appreciated.

Thanks

I admit right up front that I don't use the Doctor.

Perhaps, given your description, the Doctor is trying to access your Email profile in your Digital Send options.

From what I remember of the Doctor, checking Scan to Email profile setup is not something it used to do -- but, you know, it's been a minute since I used it.

If, on the other hand, you did use EWS to create a printer password, then there's that -- the Doctor might trip over a user induced security password that was added to the printer.  If you don't know what this is, you likely did not deliberately add a password to the printer .

What to do?

First - What the printer can do:

Digital sending features

Scan-to E-mail; Scan to network folder; scan to SharePoint; Scan to thumb drive

Printer - Digital Send Features - Scan to Email

The printer supports SMTP Scan to Email.

Nice feature

Check whether the email provider you are using requires that you set up 2-Step verification and an App Password to access third party apps.

What?

Several email providers have disabled "Less Secure Apps".

Scan to Email qualifies as a third party application.

Open your email provider's security website

If needful,

Switch ON 2-Step Verification

Create an App Password for mail

Check / Edit your Scan to Email profile (in EWS) to use the App Password in place of your regular email password.

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Scan to Email > Settings / Scan to Email Setup

Scan to Email – Two-Step Verification and Application Password

Email Account Security

"Scan to Email", "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".

For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.

Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email password in "third party" apps and software.

Less secure apps & your Google Account

This video will quickly show you how to set up scan to email with an HP printer with G-mail AND keep the 2-Step verification security feature. App Passwords

Set up Scan to Email HP Printer with 2 Step Verification on G-mail and Google

Steps

Log into your Google Account

Open your Google Security Webpage

Next, if not done, Switch ON 2-step verification

Turn on 2-Step Verification

Next, Complete the steps to open your mail security settings

Sign in with App Passwords

and

Create / Select app and (then) create your app password

  • At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using > Select device and choose the device you’re using > Generate.
  • Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
  • Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Assign / set that new App Password in your Scan to Email profile as the password.

Printer - Dual Band Network

Dual Band Network - Considerations

Reminders

Some printers, particularly older models, only support 2.4GHz

Some printers support both 5GHz and 2.4GHz – but not at the same time

Regardless, if the printer won't work or cannot connect to your 5GHz frequency, try 2.4GHz.

If you are running a Dual Band Network,

Check that the router is set up to broadcast all frequencies it supports.

Next,

If your router supports it,

Create a separate SSID named network for each frequency (one for 5GHz and one for 2.4GHz).

and

Connect the printer to the SSID network on the frequency / band you want it to use.

In general,

  • 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance (separation) between router and device (printer)
  • 5GHz is faster

Printer - Full Feature Software

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is needed to manage Scan to Computer from the printer.

Install the software

Open the Printer Assistant Shortcut

Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Details and Example

============================

Printer Software

In many cases, particularly if you have been able to get the preliminary network connection working, you can finalize the setup by installing the Full Feature Software.

Relevant to supported versions of Windows

If you have not done so, consider

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

If the full driver printer software is (already) installed but not working,

  • Uninstall any printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and sign in.

Next,

  • Check (for the Printer) in Devices and Printers  > If found, Right-Click Printer and Remove -- If any changes are made, that is, you remove anything, Restart the computer and sign in.I

Next,

  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software

Details Page - Driver - For your Printer

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information - Download  <<<

HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

Installation

  • Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Optional – Supported for your printer

Next – HP Universal Scan Software - NOTE:  Model and Operating System version Dependent

HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software adds OCR libraries to installed HP Scan software.

HPUS installs a new, full featured, (and separate) HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note:  HPUS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature printer software.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in

HP Universal Scan Software provides a larger GUI to make using the software easier on high-resolution screens.   New features have been added to the main menu to help with navigating the settings.
