I just changed my modem to a new one and am having trouble connecting my printer to the network (I even did the default reset). I am trying to contact support but in order to talk/chat with anyone, I need my serial number. I have entered my serial number correctly (checked zeros and Os, ones and Is, etc) plenty of times and it keeps saying the Serial Number is invalid. The chatbot keeps asking if I need help finding the serial number, which I don't. It is well and truly located, just invalid somehow.

I have an HP ENVY 5055 printer. Please somebody help me!

Thank you.

Hi @Stereo11,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this situation must be, especially with the added pressure of needing support for your printer. Here are a few steps you can take to address the issue with the serial number:

Verify Serial Number Format:

  • Double-check the format of the serial number. HP serial numbers typically include a combination of letters and numbers. Ensure you're not confusing characters like 0 (zero) with O (letter O), 1 (one) with I (letter I), etc.

Check the Printer Label:

  • Verify the serial number on the physical label of the printer. It is usually located on the back or bottom of the printer. Ensure that you are copying it correctly from the label.

Try Different Methods:

  • Sometimes, the support site or chatbot may be having issues. Try accessing HP support through a different browser or device.

Manual Entry:

  • When entering the serial number, make sure there are no extra spaces or hidden characters. Try typing it manually rather than pasting it.

For the exact name of the model and the product? Please refer to this document for steps to find the product details.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please believe me when I originally said I entered the serial number the correct way, having double and triple checked zero's and O's, etc.

The serial number on my printer is a combination of ten letters and numbers, with no hyphens or dashes, so if HP wants me to enter this serial number in "the correct format" - I don't know what that is.

It keeps saying Invalid Serial Number.

Please help me. Please let me just speak to someone.

Thank you.
