Hi @Bunny49

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A "79 Service Error" on your HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw indicates that there is a firmware or internal communication issue with the printer, which can sometimes be triggered by a variety of factors, such as incorrect settings, print jobs stuck in the queue, or corrupt files.

Here are several steps you can follow to try to resolve the 79 Service Error:

1. Power Cycle the Printer (Turn Off and On)

Even though you've tried switching the printer off and on, let's do it again properly:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds to ensure the printer fully powers down and any internal memory clears.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on.
  • Wait for the printer to fully reboot and see if the error persists.

2. Clear Any Print Jobs in the Queue

If there’s a stuck print job causing the issue, you might need to clear the print queue:

  • Open the Print Queue: On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click on the printer icon for your HP LaserJet and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any print jobs that are pending or stuck.
  • After clearing the queue, restart the printer again and check if the error is resolved.

3. Disconnect from the Network (if applicable)

If your printer is connected to a network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, disconnect it temporarily:

  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off the Wi-Fi on your printer through the control panel.
  • After turning off the network connection, try restarting the printer again to see if the error clears.

4. Check for Firmware Update

Sometimes, a firmware update is required to fix bugs that cause the 79 service error:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw).
  • Check for any firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Follow the instructions on the HP website to download and install the firmware update. If you can access the printer’s web interface (by entering the printer’s IP address in a web browser), you may be able to perform the update directly from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
