@AEL1, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Refer to the document Connect to a Wireless HP Printer for alternate connectivity methods.

If you still have issues, use the guided troubleshooter Troubleshooting | Wireless Printing Center for instruction to isolate and resolve the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have performed each of the recommendations. The issue is connecting the printer to my wireless network. This problem of connecting to my wireless net work ties into the message I am receiving when I go through the troubleshooting steps etc. and it says that the administrator set the printer so that The printer Hass to be connected to the wireless network in order for the Administrator of settings to be changed for a reset from my computer which shares the same network. One of the causes of the entire problem is that there was an upgrade in firmware on my Asus a 3100 router which created the possibility of a dual band wireless, 2.4 and 5 GHz. I mistakenly had forgotten this printer only will operate on the 2.4 GHz network and so being on a dual band complicated the situation and the printer has never worked again and because it cannot be connected to the wireless network because of an administrative lock which was set on my computer the computer nor the printer are communicating. I believe if I were able to reset my 6978 OfficeJet Pro to its default settings I could then restart tire wireless connecting process. But up to this point the HP support team has been unable to confirm if that’s possible or not. Two days ago I spent 8.5 hours just on this issue in addition to four or five additional hours. I’ve got a month approximately left on my warranty and if I can’t get this settled today I think I’ll end up going back to Amazon where I purchased it.

The only option left is to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps!
