Hi @GraceH130,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer stops working after printing a few documents. Let’s work together to get your HP Smart Tank 5101 back to working properly.
- Does the issue occur when printing specific types of documents (e.g., text, images) or with all documents?
- Have you recently replaced the ink or made any changes to your printer's settings, such as connecting it to a different network or updating software?
Let's try these steps.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Power off the printer and carefully check for any paper jams or small pieces of paper stuck inside. Even a minor obstruction can cause the printer to stop and trigger the flashing light.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, and waiting for 60 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset the printer and resolve minor glitches.
Check Ink Levels:
- Verify that the ink tanks are full and properly installed. If the ink levels are low or there’s an issue with the ink tank, the printer may stop printing to prevent damage.
Inspect the Power Supply:
- Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the printer and the power outlet. If the printer is using a power strip, try plugging it directly into the wall socket to rule out issues with the power strip.
Update Printer Drivers and Firmware:
- Make sure your printer's drivers and firmware are up-to-date. Outdated software can sometimes cause connectivity or printing issues. Check for updates through the HP Smart app or visit the HP support website.
You may also refer to Blinking Lights.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
