HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One

This product is a piece of junk. I purchased it in Jan 2024.  Since my ownership, I've had problems with WIFI connectivity. Now, my WIFI router can't detect a WIFI signal to make a connection. Please, don't send me to tech support because I've spent countless hours with them resulting in no solutions. Tech support tried to tell me my 2 year laptop is the problem and they tried to solicit $199 agreement to fix my problem. Hell, I could by another printer (not an HP) for that amount. Anyhow my Best Buy tech folks found most of the tech support findings were nonsense!! I need my printer replaced please!  I

@Idmj, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I’m sorry to hear about the frustrating experience with your HP Smart Tank 6001. It’s frustrating when tech support doesn’t seem to solve the issue, especially when you’ve spent so much time trying to get it resolved.

Before you pursue a replacement, there are some troubleshooting steps you can try yourself that might help fix the issue with the Wi-Fi connectivity. These steps can address common issues with printers that are having trouble staying connected to a Wi-Fi network. Since you’ve already been through tech support, I’ll try to suggest steps that are a bit more hands-on.

Restart Your Printer and Router

Printer: Turn off your HP Smart Tank 6001, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Router: Power cycle your router by unplugging it for 10-15 seconds, then plugging it back in.

This can help resolve temporary connectivity issues.

Check Your Wi-Fi Network

Make sure your Wi-Fi network is working fine for other devices (laptops, phones, etc.).

Network Type: Ensure that your printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz network (not the 5 GHz network), as some printers do not support the 5 GHz band.

Wi-Fi Signal Strength: If the router is far from the printer, the Wi-Fi signal may be too weak. Try moving the router closer or using a Wi-Fi extender.

Re-run the Wireless Setup on the Printer

On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.

Follow the instructions to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.

If your printer can't detect your Wi-Fi network, it could be a router setting issue (e.g., hidden SSID or MAC address filtering).

Disable Your Router's Security Temporarily

Sometimes, high-security settings (like WPA3 encryption) can cause problems. Temporarily switch your router's security settings to WPA2 and see if the printer connects.

After this test, revert to the original security settings if it works.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

If none of the above works, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer:

On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore.

This will erase any settings and restore the printer to its original state, which might help if there’s a deeper issue with the wireless connection.

Check Router Settings

DHCP: Ensure your router’s DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is enabled. This assigns IP addresses to devices (including your printer) automatically.

MAC Address Filtering: If MAC address filtering is enabled, make sure your printer’s MAC address is added to the router’s whitelist.

Channel Selection: Set your router’s Wi-Fi channel to Auto or choose a specific channel (e.g., channel 1, 6, or 11) to avoid overlap with other networks.

Reinstall HP Printer Software

Remove the HP Smart app or any HP printer software on your computer.

Then, go to the HP website to download the latest drivers and software for your printer.

Reinstall it and follow the setup instructions to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
