Hi @BillyB22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 shows as offline and you’re unable to reinstall it. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the printer is powered on and connected
Make sure the printer is turned on and shows no error lights.
Check that it is connected to Wi-Fi and not displaying a wireless warning.

Restart the printer, computer, and router
Turn off the printer and shut down the computer.
Power off the router for 1–2 minutes, then turn it back on, followed by the printer and computer.

Check the printer’s network connection
Print a network configuration or wireless test report from the printer.
Confirm the printer has a valid IP address and is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Set the printer online manually
On the computer, open Devices and Printers.
Right-click the Smart Tank Plus 551, select “See what’s printing,” and make sure “Use Printer Offline” is not checked.

Remove all existing printer entries
In Devices and Printers, remove the Smart Tank Plus 551 and any duplicate entries.
Restart the computer to clear cached printer information.

Reset the printer’s network settings
Use the printer’s control panel or button combination to restore network defaults.
After the reset, reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi and wait until it shows as connected.

Reinstall using HP Smart
Open the HP Smart app and choose to add a new printer.
Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled during setup.

Temporarily disable VPN or security software
Turn off any VPN, firewall, or antivirus software on the computer.
These can block printer discovery and cause reinstall failures.

Confirm the computer’s network profile
Ensure the computer is connected to a Private/Home network, not Public.
Public networks can prevent devices from discovering each other.

I hope this helps.
