Microsoft Windows 11

The printer always goes offline when it's been idle. The connection, router, etc. are not the issue. I do all the steps. I do all the steps all the time. I'm sorry I bought this printer. It's more trouble than it could ever be worth.

@LB241, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e going offline when idle. I understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you've already tried multiple steps. Let's work together to get this resolved once and for all.

Set a Static IP Address

Sometimes, printers go offline due to dynamic IP changes. Assigning a static IP can help maintain a stable connection.

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
  • Note the current IP address.
  • Open a browser and enter the IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration and set it to Manual.
  • Enter the current IP, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.
  • Click Apply.

Disable Power Saving Features

The printer may be going into a deep sleep mode.

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Preferences > Energy Settings.
  • Set Sleep Mode to a longer duration or disable Auto-Off.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.

  • Visit the HP support page.
  • Enter your printer model: HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e.
  • Download and install the latest firmware.

Use HP Smart App for Better Connectivity

The HP Smart app helps manage printer status and can often reconnect it automatically.

Check Windows Settings

Ensure the printer is not set to go offline:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer > See what's printing.
  • Click Printer in the top menu and uncheck Use Printer Offline

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello.

I would like to set a static IP address,  However, my network test results page notes IP Address "not applicable".

My printer has been connected to my WiFi for several years and has stopped working.  When I try to reconnect, it will not do so.

I have rebooted several times to no success.

Thanks

While I appreciate getting a reply... really? This is necessary to ensure your printer stays online? If it wasn't so preposterous and disrespectful to your customers it would be hilarious. No need to reply again.
