Suddenly while working on my computer, I got a small popup window titled: HP Update, that said: Access is denied. with an OK button. Pressed the OK button and it closed.
Any idea what this was from?

Hi @saberman,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for sharing this. We understand how confusing it can be to see a pop-up titled HP Update with the message “Access is denied” and then disappear after clicking OK.
How to Fix It
1. Run HP Update as Administrator
- Press Windows + S → type HP Update.
- Right-click → Run as administrator.
2. Update HP Software
- Download the latest HP Support Assistant: 👉 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Install and restart your PC.
- Use HP Support Assistant to check for updates instead of the old HP Update tool.
3. Check Windows Permissions
- Ensure your account has administrator rights.
- Temporarily disable antivirus/firewall and retry.
4. Remove Old HP Update Utility
- Go to Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a program.
- Remove HP Update if listed.
- Reinstall HP Support Assistant for future updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
