HP ENVY 6458e All-in-One Printer

I bought this printer some years ago and never have been able to get a good printout after few good ones. Wifi is poor, keeps dropping and keeps throwing out blank pages, almost since day one. Now i have read that after some days without actually printing something the ink can dry out and does not print. What kind of printer is this for a home? If this is intended for an office (where there is daily activity), it should be advertised as so, because i doubt that any home might print on a weekly basis. I have an old Lexmark that never has given me issues and i have to take out every time i intend to print with this HP Envy one. If i could return it, I would do so. Now it sometimes throw out errors like tray open or empty, when it is closed and full. Every time is a different thing. Super slow. Im very dissatisfied with this printer. it was an expensive one for few relatively good printouts. I might be willing to look at HP again on a trade in basis, but not for sure this model or something similar

Hi @juliodom

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've been dealing with a frustrating experience with your HP Envy printer. From poor print quality, constant connectivity issues, to the ink drying out, I can definitely see why you're dissatisfied, especially given the price you paid for it. If you're considering trading it in or looking for a better replacement, I’d be happy to help you explore some options.

Addressing the Issues with Your HP Envy Printer

It sounds like your printer is struggling with a number of common issues:

  1. Wifi Connectivity: If the Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping, it could be a router or printer setting issue. Sometimes printers struggle with Wi-Fi reliability, particularly if there’s interference or the signal isn’t strong enough. But I understand your frustration if it’s been a long-term issue.
  2. Ink Drying Out: Many inkjet printers, including HP Envy models, have issues with ink cartridges drying out if they’re not used frequently. HP's "Instant Ink" program is meant to address this, but without frequent use, you might still experience dried-out ink.
  3. Random Errors (e.g., Tray Open or Empty): This could be a hardware issue or a software glitch that’s causing the sensors to malfunction. It's possible that the printer’s internal sensor needs recalibration or replacement.
  4. Slow Printing: Some HP inkjet models can be quite slow, especially when printing high-quality photos or documents. This is more common in home printers compared to office-grade machines.

Is This Printer Suitable for Home Use?

HP’s Envy series is marketed as a consumer/home printer, designed for everyday printing needs. However, like many inkjet printers, it can struggle with issues like drying ink and slow print speeds when not used frequently. HP's inkjet printers (like the Envy series) are generally better suited for:

  • Occasional printing (e.g., a few pages every week or month).
  • Print quality for documents and occasional photos.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please provide trade in options and replacement. Although it is marketed for home use, it is not suitable for occassional printing.
