Hi @GeneBee1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you encounter an error message with a flashing E and ! symbol on your HP DeskJet 2855e printer after attempting to change the ink cartridges, it typically indicates an issue with the cartridges or their installation. Here's what you can do to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Ensure Proper Installation:
- Check Cartridges: Open the ink cartridge access door and ensure that the new cartridges are properly installed. Make sure they are securely seated in their respective slots and that you have removed any protective tape or packaging from the cartridges.
2. Verify Cartridge Compatibility:
- Correct Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your HP DeskJet 2855e printer model. Using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can cause errors.
3. Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Remove Cartridges: Take out the ink cartridges from the printer.
- Clean Contacts: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the electrical contacts on the cartridges. Make sure to clean both the contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Once cleaned, reinstall the cartridges into the printer and ensure they are properly seated.
4. Restart Printer:
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer by pressing the power button, unplug the power cord from the printer, and wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug In and Turn On: Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on. Allow the printer to go through its initialization process and check if the error persists.
5. Perform Printer Reset:
- Reset Printer: Sometimes, performing a reset on the printer can help clear temporary errors. Refer to your printer's manual or documentation for instructions on how to perform a reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
