I’m trying to set up my printer. It has been set up before but not on my phone. I got into the wifi to connect it but I don’t know the password to the printer. I don’t have any of the manuals either. So I’m unable to connect the app to the printer. I have a HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w

Hi @Jbreneman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you don’t know the password for your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w, you can try to reset the printer’s network settings to restore its default Wi-Fi settings. This will enable you to set up the printer on your phone without needing the previous password. Here’s how.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer control panel, locate and hold down the Wireless button (it may have an icon with a Wi-Fi symbol) until the Attention light (triangle with an exclamation mark) starts blinking. This should reset the wireless settings to factory defaults.

Reconnect to the Printer’s Wi-Fi Direct:

  • After resetting, turn on Wi-Fi Direct by pressing the Wi-Fi Direct button on the printer (or by pressing the Wireless and Information buttons simultaneously, depending on your model).
  • On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and look for a network named something like HP-Setup-<printer model>. Connect to it.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Download and open the HP Smart app on your phone.
  • Follow the app instructions to connect to your printer and set up the Wi-Fi connection again, using your preferred Wi-Fi network and password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
