Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

Hello,

I'm trying to install and connect a new HP Smart Tank 670 printer to my Windows 10 laptop and Samsung Android Smart Phone. I have downloaded the HP Smart app, created my account and have tried the setup process from both devices with the same result - no printers found.

When I do a WiFi scan from both devices I can see the printer listed, but the connection process is just not working.

There is virtually no display on this printer so I'm assuming that it must be configred through the PC or Smartphone App.

I'm assuming it's in WiFi setup mode as the power light is on and the WiFi symbol is flashing blue. Also there is a WiFi icon on the right of the screen that shows waves going up.

I have already tried restarting everything as suggested by the HP Bot and always get the same result.

My internet is a Starlink modem and I have a good signal. The printer and PC/Phone are located about 15 feet from the modem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @RickWinPV,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel the frustration when everything seems ready: the printer is powered on, the Wi-Fi light is flashing blue, and your devices can see it, but the HP Smart app just won’t connect. It’s like standing at a door that’s open, yet somehow you can’t walk through.

Let’s gently walk through the steps to get your HP Smart Tank 670 printer connected to both your Windows 10 laptop and your Samsung Android phone, especially with your Starlink internet setup.

Step-by-Step Fix: HP Smart Tank 670 Wi-Fi Setup

1. Confirm Wi-Fi Setup Mode

The flashing blue Wi-Fi light means your printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode, which is good. This mode lasts for 2 hours.

If it’s been longer, restore Wi-Fi setup mode:

  • Press and hold the Information button on the printer for 5 seconds until the control panel buttons light up.
  • Wait for the blue Wi-Fi light to blink again. Now it’s ready to connect.

2. Ensure Devices Are on the Same Network

  • Your Windows 10 laptop and Android phone must be connected to the same Starlink Wi-Fi network.
  • Avoid using guest networks or VPNs during setup.

3. Use the HP App Properly

If it still doesn’t detect:

  • Try connecting via Wi-Fi Direct
    • On your phone/laptop, go to Wi-Fi settings.
    • Connect to the printer’s temporary network (e.g., HP-Setup<model>).
    • Return to the HP pp and continue setup.

4. Try USB Setup (Optional)

If the wireless setup fails repeatedly:

  • Connect the printer to your laptop via USB.
  • Open HP Smart app → Add printer → Follow prompts.
  • Once added, you can switch to wireless later.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the info @vikramthegreat

I've tried #1 several times, I've restarted the printer and the only difference I can find is the X Cancel button doesn't seem to do anything. Hitting the WiFi and Cancel together for a short time and over 5 sec does nothing - no flashing power button, hitting the WiFi alone makes the wifi symbol go to flashing blue. I've tried searching in the HP app after each step for the printer and it finds none and says to do a WiFi Reset.

For #2, yes both the mobile and laptop are on the same WiFi network - the problem is the printer is not yet on the network. The mobile also has Bluetooth on. We also tried another phone as well, same results, HP app finds no printer on the mobiles or the laptop.

#3, yes I've tried the first part many times, no results. I was able to find it in the laptop under wifi settings and add a WiFi direct printer and I was able to print a few pages and then it just started getting error on printing messages and blocking the queue. I was still not able to run the HP app successfully with it connected this way either - it just says no printers found, even though it shows up in the list of printers now.

#4, Went out and bought the USB cable and tried to add it this way, same results, HP app still does not see the printer and no printing occurs.

At this point I'm going to install Windows 11 on the laptop to see if a clean install will fix the issue after I uninstall all traces of HP from the laptop. Then I'll try your list again.

Thanks

Hi @vikramthegreat,

So I cleaned out all old printer installations, installed windows 11, re-installed HP Smart and now I'm finally seeing the printer listed when we do List Printers in HP Smart. So I select it and then it throws an error telling me to turn the printer on - which it already is and the blue WiFi symbol is still flashing. Tried a few times, same result.

Will keep trying...

@vikramthegreat OK, So now it cannot find the printer again. Even though HP Smart showed it and the panel said it was Online, I could not select it without error.

One consistent difference between your instructions and other instructions I'm reading online is that you must hit the WiFi and Cancel buttons together until the power button flashes. I've never been able to get that to happen, it never flashes, only the WiFi button flashes, I have tried fast, 1 min, 5 min etc and nothing I do makes the power button flash.

Other ideas?

Thanks

Hi @vikramthegreat,

Afternoon update: I'm assuming it's not supposed to take a week to get this to work? Here is where we are this afternoon.

1. I have installed Windows 11, removed all traces of previous printers and printer programs, restarted everything.

2. I was able to get it up using WiFi Direct finally and it prints normally from all programs. So then I tried to use HP Smart to complete the installation. I can now see the printer when doing a search, it says Online, but when I click it to continue to add printer, I get the following message:

Select a different printer

HP Smart Tank 660-670 Series must be turned on to add it to HP Smart. Once the printer is turned on, tap OK to refresh and then select the printer again.

At this point the printer is powered on and the printer icon has changed to Offline and red. Again have repeated this many times with the same result. At least it can see the printer now, it just won't proceed with adding it. Would be OK but seems like the HP Smart program is the only way I can do scans and other functions other than printing to it.

Thanks - Rick
