Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

How do I turn off the sleep mode on my printer? As it no longer wakes up when I want to print. I have to manually now turn on the printer to print. Then it takes several tries before it recognizes what I want to print. Or will time out before I can select what I want to print and the settings  ( ie how many pages, pages numbers, color or black, or 2 sided)

Hi @DianeWax

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when the printer doesn’t wake up as expected, especially when you’re ready to print and it takes multiple attempts. Thank you for sharing the details of what you’ve already tried—it helps narrow down the steps we can take together.

Let’s adjust the sleep mode settings so the printer stays responsive when you need it.

Here are the steps you can follow directly on your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5200 All-in-One series printer:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, tap the Setup or Settings icon (usually represented by a gear).
  2. Scroll to and select Preferences or Power Management.
  3. Look for Sleep Mode or Auto-Off settings.
  4. Change the sleep timer to Never or set it to a longer duration (for example, 60 minutes).
  5. Confirm and save the changes.

On your Windows computer, you can also adjust the printer’s settings through the HP App:

  1. Open the HP App on your PC.
  2. Select your printer from the home screen.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).
  4. Navigate to System > Power Management.
  5. Adjust the Sleep Mode or Auto-Off settings to your preference.

This should help keep your printer awake and ready when you send a job, so you don’t have to manually power it on each time. Would you like me to also share steps to ensure the printer maintains a stable connection with your computer, so it doesn’t time out before you select your print settings?
