Network scanning worked flawlessly until several months ago. I now get error message "Unable to connect to the printer" in the Network Folder Setup. I have another HP printer that network scans to same path with no issues. Is this a firmware issue or just an unsolvable problem?

SOLVED: After months of frustration, and trying different suggestions, I stumbled upon the solution. My NAS is a WD PR4100. There must have been a firmware update which affected the settings under Windows Services, specifically SMB protocol. The default setting was SMB 2. The options are SMB1, SMB2 and SMB3. When I changed it back to SMB1, voila, network scanning worked again on my HP8620. However, much to my chagrin, then scanning didn't work for my HP479.
Solution- there is an SMB protocol setting for both SMB1 and SMB2, which is then satisfactory to both of my network printers.

Something similar worked for me, too. My NAS is a Windows 10 Pro system, and enabling SMB1 (which is disabled by default), restored the "Scan to Share Folder" functionality. In my case, it was important to reboot both the Windows system and the HP printer after changing this setting. SMB1 is considered obsolete and a security risk, but it's the only way to restore this feature.
