macOS 12.0 Monterey

When I try to print from my Mac to my printer, the printing never occurs - the "progress bar" moves, but I eventually have to Cancel the print job.  I've unplugged and replugged the printer a few times, have restarted my Mac, and have deleted the printer and tried to add the printer back again in my Settings. When I try to add the printer back, I receive this message:  " Unable to communicate with printer at this time.  Unable to connect 'HP Office Jet 8010 series [57D61C]._ipps_tcp.local.' due to an error. " What else do I need to try?

Hi @ CindyArk,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already attempted some basic troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Check Printer Connection:
    • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the network. Check if it's turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  2. Update Printer Drivers:
    • Visit the HP website to ensure you have the latest printer drivers for macOS Monterey. Sometimes, updating the drivers can resolve compatibility issues.
  3. Reset Printing System:
    • Open "System Preferences" on your Mac.
    • Select "Printers & Scanners."
    • Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer in the list and choose "Reset printing system."
    • This will remove all printers from your list. You can then re-add your HP OfficeJet.
  4. Reinstall Printer:
    • After resetting the printing system, try adding the printer again. Make sure to use the latest HP drivers during the installation process.
  5. Firewall and Security Software:
    • Check if any firewall or security software on your Mac is blocking the communication with the printer. Temporarily disable such software and see if it makes a difference.
  6. Check IP Address:
    • Find the IP address of your HP OfficeJet printer. You can usually do this through the printer's control panel or by printing a network configuration page.
    • Instead of adding the printer using the Bonjour name, try adding it using the IP address. In the "Printers & Scanners" settings, click the "+" button, choose "IP," and enter the printer's IP address.
  7. Check for macOS Updates:
    • Ensure your macOS is up to date. Sometimes, printer issues can be resolved by installing the latest updates from Apple.
  8. Check Printer Configuration:
    • Make sure that the printer settings (e.g., paper size, print quality) are configured correctly. Incorrect settings might lead to print failures.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
