My printer model is hp Color Laser Jet MFP M277dw. I cannot  print wirelessly. When I run diagnostics I get the answer "expired certificate." How can I solve the problem?

Hi Nanelou

The "expired certificate" error on your HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw means your computer and printer cannot securely communicate. This often happens with Mac and iOS devices because they rely on a secure connection (like Secure AirPrint) which requires a valid SSL certificate. The good news is you can fix this by generating a new self-signed certificate on the printer's web interface.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Find Your Printer's IP Address

You'll need the printer's IP address to access its settings.

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings or wireless settings.

  • Look for an option to view network details or print a network configuration page. The IP address will be displayed there (it will look something like 192.168.1.10).

2. Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

The EWS is your printer's built-in web page for managing settings.

  • On a computer connected to the same network as the printer, open a web browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).

  • In the address bar, type your printer's IP address and press Enter.

  • You might see a security warning pop-up since the current certificate is expired. This is normal. Click on Advanced or Proceed to... to continue to the printer's page.

3. Generate a New Certificate

Once you are on the printer's EWS page, you'll need to create a new certificate.

  • Navigate to the Security tab or a similar section like "Web Services" or "Network."

  • Look for an option called Certificates.

  • Click on Configure and then select the option to Create a new self-signed certificate.

  • Follow any on-screen prompts to generate the new certificate. The printer will typically create one that is valid for ten years.

  • Click Finish or Apply and then restart your printer to ensure the new certificate takes effect.

4. Re-add the Printer to Your Computer

After the new certificate is in place, you may need to remove and re-add the printer on your computer.

  • On your computer, go to Printers & Scanners (on Mac) or Devices and Printers (on Windows).

  • Remove the HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw from your list of printers.

  • Click the Add a printer or + button. Your computer should now be able to securely connect and add the printer with the new certificate, allowing you to print wirelessly.

You can find more detailed instructions on how to fix the 'Encryption Credentials Expired' error on the HP Support YouTube channel.

I hope the above is helpful
