Laserjet M110W

OS: MacOS 15.1.1

This printer was connected to my macbook pro a few months ago then stopped working. I am trying to reconnect it, and am seeing the issues in the images below.   It goes through the first steps successfully (finding printer, IP address received, etc.) then fails on the last step.

I have tried:

  • the "Solution" here (is not a solution)
  • Suggestions in this thread (nothing worked)
  • restarting computer, printer, and wifi

Before you ask, here are the answers to silly questions:

  • yes I am on the same wifi network
  • yes the printer is on
  • yes the computer is up to date and no antivirus is on it

Any help is appreciated. I called tech support and they said I have to pay to receive help for this issue.   It really makes me realize that this is incentive for HP To make terrible products because they can then charge people for tech support afterwards.  This printer is garbage to me now if I can't connect to it.

Hi @hamsternipples9

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you’ve been having with the HP LaserJet M110W and the frustration that came from tech support. Let’s see if we can get this working without having to go down the paid support route!

Since it worked before but stopped working, it might be a simple issue related to settings, drivers, or network configuration. Based on what you’ve shared, let’s go through a few additional troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue:

1. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi on Printer

Since the printer was connected before but has stopped, there may be an issue with its Wi-Fi configuration. Sometimes, it needs to be "forgotten" and reconnected:

  • Reset the printer's network settings:
    1. Turn on the printer.
    2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button (on the printer) for about 5 seconds until the light blinks. This should reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings.
    3. The printer will attempt to connect to your network again. Follow the instructions for reconnecting it via the HP Smart app or the printer’s WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) feature.
  • Reconnect manually via HP Smart app: Open the HP Smart app on your Mac and try to reconnect to the printer by selecting it and entering the Wi-Fi network credentials.

2. Check Your Printer’s IP Address

  • It sounds like the printer is receiving an IP address, but there may still be a connection problem. Check to make sure the printer has a valid IP address. You can print a Network Configuration Report directly from the printer:
    1. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the blue light blinks.
    2. The printer will print a configuration page that includes the current IP address.
    3. Make sure that IP is in the same range as your MacBook (on the same subnet) and that it doesn’t conflict with other devices on your network.
  • Manually add the printer using IP: If you can see the printer’s IP on the configuration page, you can try adding it manually on macOS:
    1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Click the "+" sign to add a printer.
    3. Select IP at the top of the window.
    4. Enter the printer’s IP address and make sure the protocol is set to HP Jetdirect - Socket.
    5. Click Add and see if your Mac connects.

3. Install or Reinstall HP Drivers

Even though the printer worked before, sometimes macOS updates or changes can break printer connections. Reinstalling the drivers can help:

  • Go to the HP LaserJet M110w support page and download the latest drivers for macOS 15.1.1.
  • Follow the installation instructions carefully. This might involve downloading the HP Easy Start installer, which will guide you through setting up the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
