I want to connect HP office jet pro 6970 to new WiFi. Attempting to access setup I get the following message: “ This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer.”  In addition I don’t know where to find the printer pin. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi @QK2017,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To unlock the setup on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 and connect to a new Wi-Fi, you can try the following steps:

Check for Default PIN:

  • If the printer came with a setup guide, it might mention the default PIN. Otherwise, check the printer's documentation or the back of the printer for any labels.

Reset the Network Settings:

  • You can reset the network settings to factory defaults. This usually involves going to the printer's control panel:
    • Navigate to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults. This will allow you to set up the Wi-Fi without needing a PIN.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • If you have the HP Smart app installed on your smartphone or computer, you can use it to set up the printer wirelessly. The app may bypass the PIN requirement.

Contact the Previous Owner:

  • If you purchased the printer used, contacting the previous owner for the PIN or to unlock the printer can be helpful.

Factory Reset (last resort):

  • If all else fails, you can perform a factory reset, which will clear all settings, including the locked setup:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
