In trying to access the Embedded Web Server, the M140w laserjet configuration instructions say to to use the ip address [Personal Information Removed]. None if my browsers will accept that address, as it is designated an unsafe site. How therefore can I reach the the embedded Web server to change the printer sleep settings. I do not have the HP Smart app installed.

Hi @Abounder,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of your HP LaserJet M140w due to browser warnings, here are some steps you can take to successfully access the EWS and adjust the printer settings:
Step 1: Use HTTPS
- Enter HTTPS: When typing the IP address into your browser, ensure you use https:// at the beginning of the address. For example, type https://<IP address>. Some browsers may block http:// connections for security reasons but allow https://.
Step 2: Bypass Security Warning
- Proceed Anyway: If your browser shows a security warning, look for an option that allows you to proceed anyway. This is often labeled as "Advanced" or "Continue to site" (the wording may vary by browser).
- In Chrome, for instance, you might need to click on "Advanced" and then "Proceed to [IP address] (unsafe)".
Step 3: Use a Different Browser
- Try Another Browser: If one browser isn't working, try using another. Browsers like Firefox or Edge may handle security warnings differently and might allow you to access the EWS without issues.
Step 4: Use a Direct Connection
- Connect via USB: If you have a USB cable, connect your printer directly to your computer. This might help you access the printer’s settings via a local address.
Step 5: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor: This tool can help diagnose and fix printer issues, and it may help in accessing the EWS.
- Download it from the HP Support website.
Step 6: Access via Windows
- Device and Printers: Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Printer: Right-click on your HP LaserJet M140w, select Printer properties, and check if there’s an option to access the EWS from there.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Rachel for your suggestions.
I have tried using hpps and it also appears as unsafe. I have tried different browsers and they all show it as unsafe. None of the browsers let me override the unsafe message . In the circumstances I do not want to risk jeopardising the safety of my PC in order to make a minor adjustment to my printer's sleep pattern. I am jus suprised that HP would use such an unsafe ip address.
