Hi @BW112,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One.

We understand that the printer is showing a continuous spinning circle on the control panel, and because of this, you cannot access the menu or use the Copy function. You would also like to change the printer's update setting.

Before attempting to change any update settings, we first need to resolve the spinning-circle condition because the printer is currently preventing you from accessing its normal controls.

Could you please confirm the following?

  • Does the spinning circle appear immediately after you turn the printer on?
  • Does the printer display any message such as Updating, Downloading, or Installing before the circle appears?
  • Approximately how long does the spinning circle remain on the display?
  • Are any of the control-panel buttons responsive while the circle is displayed?
  • Can you still print from a computer or mobile device, or is the printer completely unavailable?
  • Did this problem begin immediately after the printer attempted a firmware update?

Try a power reset
If the printer does not specifically indicate that a firmware update is actively being installed, please try this first:

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Disconnect the other end from the wall outlet.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on if it does not start automatically.
  7. Check whether the printer completes startup and returns to its normal control-panel screen.

At this stage, we would not recommend performing a factory reset, especially until we establish whether the spinning circle is related to an interrupted or incomplete update.

Please tell us exactly what appears on the printer display before the spinning circle starts and whether any buttons remain responsive. Once we have that information, we can determine the appropriate next step and then address the update setting.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
