I have the 4630 officejet with the latest hp smart app downloaded and have already tried redownloading the app and turning off printer unplugging router waiting and plugging back in and turning on, the problem is the printer is connected to the same network as the phone, I first set up the printer to connect to the Wi-Fi standalone at the very beginning without any use of a phone or anything, connection is successful for the printer to WIFI, Next, connecting the hp smart app to the printer, my iPhone is connected to the same exact network as the printer and yet it will not detect the printer and connect successfully, I have tried everything, I will note, the printer does successfully show up in the app and connect through when I have “wireless direct” mode turn on from the printer directly, this way it does connect to the hp smart app, however it’s very inconvenient as you can’t use the app with this mode as it only supports offline already downloaded documents to be printed in this mode.

Hi @Urgentprinter,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Smart app isn't detecting your HP Officejet 4630 printer despite being on the same network, it can be frustrating. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Basic Checks
- Check Network Connection: Ensure both your iPhone and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and not to a guest network or a different frequency (2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz).
- Update Firmware: Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. You can update it through the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP website.
Advanced Troubleshooting Steps
Check Printer IP Address:
- Find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
- Ensure the IP address is within the same range as your iPhone (e.g., both devices should have IPs like 192.168.x.x).
Check Network Settings:
- Router Settings: Ensure that the router is not set to isolate devices on the network. Look for settings related to client isolation, AP isolation, or similar terms in your router's admin panel.
- Firewall Settings: Temporarily disable the router's firewall to see if it's blocking the connection.
Assign a Static IP:
- Assign a static IP address to your printer within the DHCP range of your router. This can be done through your router’s settings, ensuring the printer always gets the same IP address.
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- Reset the network settings on your printer to default and reconnect it to the network.
Restart Network Devices:
- Restart your router, printer, and iPhone to refresh the network connections.
Using IP Address in HP Smart App
- Manual Printer Setup:
- Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone.
- Go to "Printers" and select "Add Printer."
- Look for an option to add a printer using an IP address or manually input the printer's IP address.
Using Wireless Direct Temporarily
If you need to use Wireless Direct temporarily, make sure:
- The printer's Wireless Direct mode is enabled.
- Connect your iPhone to the printer's Wireless Direct network.
- Open the HP Smart app and perform the necessary tasks.
This mode limits functionality but can be used as a temporary workaround until the network issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
