Sorry for the rant coming but I’m really at my wits end with what is a new and barely used printer – HP Deskjet 3760.
This is the worst printer I’ve ever owned. It says it’s offline when it’s not but can print – and the other way round.
It says it’s out of paper when it’s not.
It can perfectly print in full colour or b&w your own test sheets but anything I try to print comes out BLANK.
Yes, there is ink in it obviously if it can print your test pages and the monitor shows there is all colours of ink.
I spend hours every time I need to print something out quickly and it never ever happens. Would be grateful for any support before I throw this thing out!

Hi @Glad1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a frustrating experience with your HP DeskJet 3760! Let’s see if we can troubleshoot some of these issues.
Printer Offline/Online Issues
- Check Connections: Ensure the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network and your computer.
- Restart Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting the printer and your computer can help resolve connectivity issues.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. You can find the latest drivers on the HP support website.
Incorrect Paper Status
- Paper Settings: Check the printer settings on your computer. Make sure the correct paper size and type are selected in the print dialog.
- Clear Paper Path: Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing this issue.
Blank Pages Issue
- Print Quality Check: Run a print quality diagnostic from the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app. This will help determine if the ink nozzles are clogged.
- Clean Printheads: You can clean the printheads through the printer settings. This can help clear any clogs that might be causing blank prints.
- Check Ink Levels: Although it shows ink levels as adequate, sometimes the cartridges might still be defective or clogged. Try replacing the cartridges if cleaning doesn't work.
Additional Steps
- Factory Reset: If issues persist, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. You can usually find this option in the settings menu of the printer.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes HP releases firmware updates that can fix bugs and improve performance.
Testing with Different Applications
- Try Different Programs: Sometimes, the application you are using to print can affect the output. Try printing from different applications (like Notepad or Word) to see if the issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4
Thank you for your comprehensive response. It goes without saying that many of the obvious suggestions I have tried repeatedly.
I will try the drivers and firmware updates but, all of this still does not explain why when I print out from my laptop to printer, I get a blank sheet but your own tests in black and white as well as colour (also from my laptop), come out perfectly. And that when I print out from my mobile phone it prints perfectly in whatever setting I choose??
I look forward to your reply.
Kind regards

Hi @Glad1,
Thank you for your response,
HP DeskJet 3760 prints perfectly from your mobile device and when you run tests from your laptop, but still produces blank pages when you print regular documents. This suggests that the printer hardware and ink system are likely working fine, and the issue could be more related to communication or settings between the laptop and printer.
Here are some additional steps you can try, focusing on the laptop-to-printer connection.
Printer Settings Reset for the Laptop
- Check the Printer Defaults: Sometimes, the print settings in Windows or macOS might default to incorrect options (e.g., a blank paper type or draft mode). Ensure the correct paper size and quality settings are selected in the print dialog.
- Try a Different Printer Queue: Remove and re-add the printer on your laptop, ensuring you choose the right drivers during the installation. This can often refresh communication issues.
Driver and Software Conflicts
- Reinstall Printer Drivers: Even though you’ve tried the latest drivers, completely uninstalling the current printer software and reinstalling fresh drivers may resolve hidden conflicts. Ensure you download the latest drivers from HP’s official site for your operating system.
- Use HP’s Print and Scan Doctor (Windows): HP offers a diagnostic tool that can automatically detect and fix many common printer issues. It might help identify software conflicts or connection issues.
- Print Directly Without HP Smart App (if using it): Try printing directly through the operating system’s built-in printing system instead of using the HP Smart App to see if this makes a difference.
File Format & Application-Specific Issues
- Test Printing from Different Programs: Test printing from various applications (Notepad, Word, PDF viewer) on your laptop. Sometimes specific formats or applications can cause output issues due to compatibility problems.
- Change Print Format or Resolution: Experiment with different file formats (PDF, Word, etc.) and reduce the print quality or resolution in the print settings. This could highlight an application-specific problem.
Print Spooler Reset (Windows)
- Reset the Print Spooler Service: Sometimes, the print spooler (which manages print jobs) may get stuck, causing issues. You can reset it by:
- Open the Services window (type services.msc in the Run dialog).
- Locate Print Spooler, right-click, and choose Restart.
- Try printing again afterward.
Firmware Updates
- If you haven’t already, do try updating the printer’s firmware. HP regularly releases updates that may fix unseen compatibility issues between your laptop and the printer.
Check Print Permissions (macOS or Windows)
- On rare occasions, certain user account permissions or restrictions may affect the ability to print correctly from a specific device. Ensure your user account has full permissions to interact with the printer and perform all print tasks.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
