Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is USB connected to a desktop and network connected to a router.

I used to print from two different notebooks through wi-fi direct. It has worked properly for years.

Suddenly, the printer disappeared form both the notebooks. I regularly update the notebooks O.S..Tried to reinstall the latest driver package, downloaded from HP website, according to the HP instructions (total uninstalling) without success.

Printer still does not print through wi-fi direct, prints through USB form desktop.

Unistalling/reinstalling procedures done twice.

I have just purchased, installed and updated a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. It works fine.

Since I tried several times to unistall/install the software to not avail, it made me suspect that the problem was the printer itself.

I have updated also the HP laserjet firmware disconnecting the ethernet cable. I ha ve not reconnected the ethernet cable.

The printer now works fine and it prints through wi-fi direct.

Many thanks for your support.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's reset the setting son the Printer: 1. On the product control panel, touch the Setup button. 2. Scroll to and touch the Service menu. 3. Scroll to and touch the Restore Defaults button, and then touch the OK button. The product automatically restarts.

Once done, connect the Printer to the Wi-Fi and check if it works.

Let me know if this helps.

Very sorry for my delay in reply since I was quarantined due to COVID and I was not able to access the printer.

I have reset the Defaults as per your instructions. Printer restarted automatically.

Set Wi-Fi Direct=ON and Connection=Automatic.

Tried to add the printer as Wi-Fi printer.

First attempt: same message "Driver not available".

Following attempts: message "Operation failed. Try to add again the [printername] or see the manufacturer's instructions".

Messages recevied are in Italian language, so forgive me for some inaccuracies in translation.

Problem not solved.

Are you using the HP Smart App on your PC? If not, you may try and install to see if that works: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142. If yes, uninstall and reinstall it.

As you can read in my previous message, I solved the issue updating the firmware and disconnecting the ethernet cable. I don't know what solved the issue, whether updating the firmware or disconnecting the ethernet cable. Anyway, finally it works!
