Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Hi everyone,

I’m using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e, and within the first week I’ve already been facing scanner issues. The problem happened again today, so I decided to restart the printer using the power button.

After restarting, I noticed that the blue Wi-Fi light was no longer on. When I checked the Network Settings, I realized that the Wi-Fi option is completely missing and there’s no way to reconnect it to Wi-Fi at all.

I tried contacting HP support via WhatsApp, but unfortunately the agent didn’t seem to understand the issue.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows how to fix it?

I’ve tried all the network resets and even restored the printer to factory defaults, but nothing worked.

Hi @floraroza,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

As HP, we’ve got you. From your photo, your OfficeJet Pro 8130e is showing Network → Ethernet / AirPrint / IPv4, and the Wi‑Fi entry is missing. That almost always happens for one of two reasons:

  1. An Ethernet cable is plugged in. On many HP models, connecting Ethernet automatically disables (and hides) Wi‑Fi. Unplugging Ethernet re‑enables the wireless radio and brings the Wi‑Fi menu back.

  2. The printer’s wireless radio didn’t re‑arm after a restart/firmware event (rare, but possible).

Let’s fix it in the quickest, safest way.

Quick recovery (do these in order)

1) Physically check the rear of the printer

  • If an Ethernet (RJ‑45) cable is connected, unplug it.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power the printer OFF → ON once.

Plugged‑in Ethernet disables Wi‑Fi on various OfficeJet/OfficeJet Pro models by design. Once it’s removed, the blue Wi‑Fi light and menu option should return.

2) Restore Wi‑Fi Setup Mode (re‑enable the radio)

If Wi‑Fi is still missing after unplugging Ethernet:

  • On the touchscreen: Setup/Settings → Network setup → Restore Network Settings.
  • Wait about 60 seconds until the Wireless light blinks blue (Setup Mode).
  • Within two hours, open HP Smart and Add Printer to reconnect it to Wi‑Fi.

3) Run the built‑in Wi‑Fi checks (optional, but helpful)

  • Menu → Utilities → Tools → Reports → Network Configuration Report / Wireless Test (wording can vary).
  • The report will tell you if the radio is on and what failed during connection.

4) Update printer firmware

Once the Wi‑Fi menu is back, update to the latest firmware from the control panel (or via HP Smart) to avoid recurring radio/scan glitches. If you prefer, you can also check the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e All-in-One series | HP® Support page for updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I have followed the instructions, but the problem has not resolved. I have never had an ethernet cable connected.

Same here... I have never used an Ethernet cable or USB connection. I have been using Wi-Fi the entire time.

I have also followed all the instructions provided. However, the issue remains unresolved.

Hi

I seem to be having the same problem with the WIFI option disappearing from my printer screen.

I also tried the suggested fix from the forum with no success.  It's very frustrating cause it only a few months old.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks
