I am trying to get my new OJP 8138 to reliably print. I've had some success connecting via USB cord. I am not able to print wirelessly.   I have a mesh network. The WPS PIN ( the pin on label inside the printer) is not accepted by the hp software.

Hello @d01270, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

You can try connecting your Officejet Pro 8138 to your wireless network using Wi‑Fi Protected Setup (WPS). There are two WPS methods: Push Button and PIN. Use the one that matches your router’s capabilities.

Note: The printer only supports 2.4 GHz networks for WPS.

1. Before You Start

  • Make sure your wireless router/access point:
  • Supports 802.11b/g/n.
  • Has WPS enabled (either a physical WPS button or WPS in its web interface).
  • Make sure your computer is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.
  • Ensure HP printer software is installed on your computer.

2. Push Button Configuration (Recommended)

If your mesh router has a physical WPS button:

Start WPS on the printer - Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for more than 3 seconds.
- The Wireless light starts blinking.

Start WPS on the router - Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.

Wait for connection - The printer runs a timer for about 2 minutes. - If the connection is successful, the Wireless light stops blinking and stays on.

3. PIN Method (Use Printer‑Generated PIN, Not Label)

The PIN on the inside label is not always the WPS PIN. Use the PIN printed by the printer itself:

Print the network configuration page with WPS PIN - Press the Wireless button and Information button at the same time.
- A network configuration page prints; find the WPS PIN at the top.

Enable WPS PIN mode on the printer - Press and hold the Wireless button for more than 3 seconds.
- The Wireless light starts blinking.

Enter the WPS PIN in your router’s configuration utility - Open your router/wireless access point setup software or web interface. - Locate the WPS PIN entry section. - Enter the WPS PIN from the printed page, not the label inside the printer.

Wait for connection - Wait about 2 minutes. - If the printer connects successfully, the Wireless light stops blinking and remains lit.
