I got a new router which doesn't have a WPS button. Every time I try to connect to the new router/wifi network, the printer tells me to press the WPS button on my router. So I cannot connect to the wifi, wireless print, or connect to my other devices. Does anyone know how resolve this besides purchasing a cable to connect? thank you!

Hi @kaymjay,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your new router does not have a WPS button and your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw is prompting you to use WPS for connection, you can connect your printer to the Wi-Fi network using the standard wireless setup method. Here's how you can do it:
Step 1: Prepare for Setup
Network Name (SSID) and Password:
- Make sure you have your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password handy.
Printer and Computer Connection:
- Ensure that your printer is turned on and that your computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want to connect your printer to.
Step 2: Use the Printer Control Panel
Navigate to Wireless Setup:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the wireless settings menu. This is usually done by pressing the Wireless button or navigating through the setup menu.
Select Wireless Setup Wizard:
- Select the "Wireless Setup Wizard" option. This will start the process of searching for available Wi-Fi networks.
Select Your Wi-Fi Network:
- From the list of available networks, select your Wi-Fi network (SSID).
Enter Network Password:
- When prompted, enter your Wi-Fi network password. Use the keypad on the printer’s control panel to enter the password.
Confirm Connection:
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the connection. The printer will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Once connected, the wireless light on the printer should become steady.
Step 3: Install or Update Printer Software
Download Printer Software:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest printer software and drivers for your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw.
Install the Software:
- Run the downloaded software and follow the on-screen instructions. During the installation process, you will be prompted to select your printer and configure the wireless connection. Click here
Select Network Connection:
- Choose the option to connect the printer to the wireless network and follow the prompts to complete the setup.
Step 4: Verify the Connection
Print a Network Configuration Page:
- Print a network configuration page from the printer to confirm that it is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. This can usually be done from the wireless settings menu on the printer’s control panel.
Test the Printer:
- Send a test print job from your computer to ensure that the printer is working correctly over the wireless network.
Additional Tips
- Use the HP Smart App: You can also use the HP Smart app to set up your printer on the Wi-Fi network. Download the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device and follow the setup instructions.
- Manual IP Configuration: If the automatic setup fails, you can manually configure the printer’s IP settings to connect to the network
By using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer's control panel, you can connect your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw to your Wi-Fi network without needing a WPS button on your router. Make sure to download and install the latest printer software from the HP Support website to complete the setup and ensure your printer functions correctly on the network.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
