Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw
Microsoft Windows 11

I have called support four times for this issue in the past six months. The representatives suggest that the printer has to be within eight feet of the router. I have an extender less than eight feet from the printer, but that, it seems, is not good enough. Also, the printer shows that the signal strength is excellent.

@Spencer02138, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw keeps going offline, especially after multiple support calls. Let’s walk through a few steps to help stabilize the connection and ensure reliable printing.

Avoid Using Wi-Fi Extenders

Even if the extender is close and signal strength appears excellent, HP printers often struggle with extenders due to:

  • IP address conflicts
  • Network isolation
  • Delayed response times

Recommendation: Connect the printer directly to your main router’s Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz band preferred). If the router is far, consider relocating the printer or using a wired Ethernet connection if available.

Assign a Static IP Address

This prevents the printer from changing IP addresses, which can cause it to appear offline.

Steps:

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer.
  • Note the current IP address.
  • Access your router’s admin page and assign that IP as static for the printer’s MAC address.
  • Alternatively, set a manual IP via the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP.
    • Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration.
    • Set to Manual IP and enter the current IP, subnet mask, and gateway.

Disable IPv6

Some routers and printers have compatibility issues with IPv6.

  • On the printer’s control panel or EWS:
    • Navigate to Network Settings > Advanced Settings > IPv6.
    • Disable it.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.

  • Visit: Official HP® Support
  • Enter your printer model: Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw
  • Download and install the latest firmware.

Use HP Smart App/HP App

These tools can diagnose and fix offline issues automatically.

Power Cycle and Reconnect

  • Turn off the printer, router, and PC.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Power on router → printer → PC (in that order).
  • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi manually via the control panel.
