HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer
Other

I use my printer regularly, but in the last couple of months, often the Print Center says my printer is offline. It is on the same network as my MacBook Air with macOS Sonoma 14.5.  Everything looks fine on the Wi-Fi- Network Test Results and the HP Network Configuration Page, which discovers 19 802.11 networks, 4 of which are my Wi-Fi Network with four different BSSIDs. and channels.  Occasionally when this happens, I open HP Smart App and as soon as the printer shows up there, it will start printing and no longer say the printer is offline.  Lately this has not worked.  While troubleshooting today, I removed the printer and when I tried to add it back, the printer was not discovered.  I have AT&T Internet (unfortunately not fiber).  Any suggestions for a fix?

Hi @cinbun1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've encountered persistent issues with your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer showing as offline on your Mac, despite being connected to the same network. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this.

Restart Printer and Mac:

  • Begin by restarting both your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer and your MacBook Air. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary connectivity issues.

Check Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer and MacBook Air are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Verify that the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password are correctly entered on both devices.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer. Updating the printer's firmware may resolve compatibility issues and improve connectivity.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings menu and look for an option to reset the network settings or restore defaults. Performing a network reset may resolve connectivity issues.

Reinstall Printer Driver:

  • Remove the printer from your Mac's printer list and reinstall the printer driver. To do this, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click the "-" button to remove it. Then, click the "+" button to add the printer again and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Update macOS:

  • Ensure that your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS Sonoma. Check for any available software updates by going to System Preferences > Software Update.

Check Router Settings:

  • Review your router's settings and ensure that there are no restrictions or firewall rules that could be blocking communication between your printer and MacBook Air.

Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer within your router's settings. This can help ensure a consistent connection between your printer and MacBook Air.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e printer showing as offline on your Mac.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for your time.  I had already tried a couple of those things and followed down your list and tried some others.  What eventually worked  that time was running the wireless setup wizard on my printer again.  I printed successfully yesterday and then again earlier this morning and now I am having problems again.  The last two things on your list I have not done because I don't really know how.

Check Router Settings:

  • Review your router's settings and ensure that there are no restrictions or firewall rules that could be blocking communication between your printer and MacBook Air.

Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer within your router's settings. This can help ensure a consistent connection between your printer and MacBook Air

I am still confused about why my network shows up 4 times (two of them 5 GHz wireless band frequency) out a total of 19 discovered.

I just ran the Wireless Setup Wizard again and now it is printing.  I really need a permanent fix, as it's a pain to have to enter my password on the printer display.  I have had no problems printing for most of the time I have owned this printer and now the last several weeks I never know when it's going to work--and of course it always seems to fail me at the times I need it the most.  It may be unrelated to the printer itself.  Another unrelated technical issue I've been having lately is with screen mirroring from my iPhone to my Samsung TV, which I do almost daily.  During the last week or so, I often get an error message that it can't connect.  With both of these issues happening lately, I'm wondering if all of it is related to a network or router issue.  Thanks again for your time, effort, and timely response.
