Why does my office jet pro 8130 E emit three quick beep tone every few minutes?

@Yojimboak,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The repeating three-beep tone on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e most likely points to a wireless or network connectivity issue. Whilst HP doesn't publish detailed beep-code documentation for this model -or at least I couldn't find any, user reports and internal service notes suggest the alert happens when the printer struggles to maintain a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Common causes:

  • Weak or unstable Wi-Fi signal: The printer may briefly disconnect and attempt to reconnect, producing the three-beep tone each time.

  • Router or network configuration changes: A router reboot, firmware update, or new password/security mode can cause the printer's saved credentials to fail.

  • Interference or distance: Other wireless devices, walls, or long distances can weaken the signal.

  • Outdated printer firmware: Connectivity bugs may persist if the firmware hasn’t been updated recently.

Troubleshooting steps:

  1. Perform a hard reset
Turn the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back (while still on), wait 60 seconds, then plug it directly into a wall outlet -avoid surge protectors.

  2. Reset and reconnect network settings
On the printer's control panel, go to Setup → Network Settings → Restore Network Defaults, then reconnect using the HP Smart app or the printer's Wireless Setup Wizard.

  3. Test a USB connection
Temporarily connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable. If the beeping stops, the issue is definitely Wi-Fi related.

  4. Update the printer firmware
Download the latest firmware from HP Support – Software & Drivers or here. Firmware updates often fix Wi-Fi instability and unwanted alerts.

  5. Check your router

    • Ensure router firmware is current.

    • Move the printer closer to the router.

    • If using 5 GHz Wi-Fi, try connecting to 2.4 GHz (if available in your network) for better range.

If the beeps persist even with a stable network, you can lower or disable the sound under Setup → Preferences → Sound Effects Volume to stop the audible alerts.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
