HP Laser MFP 137fnw

I have an HP Laser MFP 137fnw. Initially, I was able to connect it to Wi-Fi without any issues. However, now it only connects via WPS. Every time I try to connect using Wi-Fi, it shows "connecting" and then immediately disconnects. I've tried with four different Wi-Fi networks, but the issue persists.

@Ahmed_Gamal, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble connecting your HP Laser MFP 137fnw to Wi-Fi, where it only connects via WPS and disconnects when attempting a standard Wi-Fi setup. Let's work through this step-by-step to resolve the issue.

Restart All Devices

Power cycle your printer, router, and the device you're using for setup:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Restart your router.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.

Check Wi-Fi Signal and Proximity

Ensure the printer is within 8 meters (26 feet) of your router and not obstructed by walls or electronic devices. A weak signal can cause intermittent disconnections.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer

To clear any previous configurations:

  • On the printer control panel, press the Menu button.
  • Navigate to Network > Network Reset.
  • Confirm the reset. The printer will restart.

Reconnect Using HP Smart App

Use the HP Smart app for a guided setup:

  • Download the app from HP Smart - HP Smart
  • Open the app and click + Add Printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Avoid Guest or Restricted Networks

Ensure you're not connecting to a guest, public, or enterprise network that may block printer communication. Use a standard home Wi-Fi network with 2.4 GHz enabled (this model does not support 5 GHz).

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues:

Advanced Router Settings (Optional)

If the issue persists:

  • Ensure MAC address filtering is disabled on your router.
  • Assign a static IP to the printer via your router settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
