Hi @hcraigr
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble connecting your printer to your Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart App. When the printer is found, but the app is unable to receive the IP address or connect it to Wi-Fi, it usually indicates a connection issue. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the problem:
1. Check the Printer’s Wi-Fi Connection
- Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can help resolve minor network or connection issues.
- Check the Printer’s Network Status: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. You can check this on the printer's control panel:
- Go to the printer's control panel.
- Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings to verify the network it’s connected to.
- If the printer is not connected, you may need to re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials.
2. Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Wi-Fi Network
- Same Network: Make sure both your computer (or mobile device) and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If they are connected to different networks (e.g., 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz), this could cause connection issues.
- Reboot Router: Sometimes, issues arise from the router itself. Power cycle your router by turning it off, waiting 10-15 seconds, and turning it back on. This can help fix network-related issues.
3. Use WPS to Connect the Printer (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
If your router supports WPS, you can use it to connect the printer to the Wi-Fi network:
- On your printer's control panel, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings.
- Select Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- Your printer should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network within a few minutes.
4. Connect the Printer Manually via Control Panel
You can also try connecting your printer to Wi-Fi manually using the printer's control panel:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup or Network.
- Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
- The printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter your Wi-Fi password.
- After entering the password, the printer should connect to the network.
5. Reinstall HP Smart App
If the printer still isn't connecting, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart App:
- Uninstall the app from your device.
- Restart your device.
- Download and install the latest version of HP Smart from the Microsoft Store (for Windows) or the App Store (for macOS, iOS, or Android).
- Try setting up the printer again using the app.
I hope this helps.
