After a system update, I can no longer connect to the internet and do not have an option to connect to my Wi-fi.  After a search of similar issues, and attempting instructions for resolution, I am still not able to get Wi-fi options.  In addition, I also don't have Wi-fi devices in my Network adaptor under Device Manager.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

It sounds like your Wi-Fi adapter is missing from Device Manager after the update. This usually happens due to a driver issue, a BIOS setting, or a corrupted update. Try these steps:

Check If the Wi-Fi Adapter Is Hidden

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  2. Click View → Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Network adapters and check if the Wi-Fi adapter appears (it may be grayed out).
  4. If it does, right-click → Enable.

Run the Network Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings (Win + I).
  2. Go to System → Troubleshoot → Other Troubleshooters.
  3. Run the Network Adapter troubleshooter.

Reinstall the Wi-Fi Driver

Since the Wi-Fi adapter is missing, you might need to reinstall the driver:

  1. Open Device Manager → Network adapters.
  2. If you see your Wi-Fi adapter, right-click → Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
  4. If it’s still missing, download the Wi-Fi driver from the HP support website.
    • Look for Wireless LAN Driver under Network Drivers.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings (Win + I) → Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
  3. Restart your laptop.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Open Settings (Win + I).
  2. Go to Network & Internet → Advanced network settings.
  3. Click Network reset → Reset now.
  4. Restart your laptop.

Enable Wi-Fi in BIOS (If Missing)

If your Wi-Fi adapter is not showing up at all, it might be disabled in the BIOS:

  1. Shut down your laptop.
  2. Turn it on and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS/UEFI.
  3. Look for Wireless Configuration (under Advanced or Built-in Devices).
  4. Ensure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled.
  5. Save and exit.

Perform a System Restore (If Issue Started After Update)

  1. Open Settings (Win + I).
  2. Search for Recovery → Open System Restore.
  3. Select a restore point before the update.
  4. Follow the prompts and restart.

If none of these steps work, let me know what you've tried and what happened, and I’ll guide you further! 😊
