I own a LaserJet Jet Pro MFP M428 fdw printer. Trying to setup a WiFi connection. When I enter setup menu, It will not allow me to enter Wireless settings. Screen goes straight to a message about " No Ethernet Connection."

How can I get to Wireless settings on this printer? I have reset router and printer multiple times. Still no access to Wireless settings. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Skeeterbud2026,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw is not allowing access to Wireless settings, showing “No Ethernet Connection” instead, and you want to set up WiFi. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check current network connections
The M428fdw is a wired-and-wireless printer. If an Ethernet cable is connected, some menus may default to Ethernet settings.
Disconnect any Ethernet cable from the printer and restart it.

Perform a network reset on the printer
On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Network Setup → Restore Network Defaults.
This clears any previous wired or wireless configurations, allowing you to start fresh.

Access the Wireless Setup Wizard
After resetting network defaults, go to Setup → Network → Wireless Setup Wizard.
The printer should now detect nearby WiFi networks and allow you to enter your WiFi credentials.

Check printer firmware
Make sure your printer firmware is up to date.
Firmware updates can fix menu and connectivity issues. You can download updates from HP’s official support site for the M428fdw.

Restart router and printer
After making these changes, restart both the printer and the router.
This ensures the printer can properly scan and connect to the WiFi network.

Confirm wireless settings
Once the printer connects, print a Network Configuration Page from Setup → Reports → Network Configuration to verify WiFi is active and the IP address is assigned.I hope this helps.

Thank you for the help. I did everything mentioned, and then read that a " Partial Reset" was required to bring up the wireless section. It seemed to be stuck in

"Ethernet" mode so the Wireless selection would not come up on the screen. 2 days of frustration, and a ton of bad words, but we are rolling now. Wished I had known about the Partial Reset function. All good, thanks again, Skeet.
