Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My wireless printer is offline. When I go to set it up and I have to type in my password, the individual letters will not display when I select the key with the letter I want.

Hi Lj0717

Since you can't see what you're typing, we need to bypass the manual entry or force the screen to refresh. Here is the best way to handle this:

1. The "Power Drain" Reset

Before trying complex settings, perform a hard reset. This clears the printer's temporary memory (cache), which often fixes unresponsive screen elements.

  • While the printer is ON, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  • Wait at least 60 seconds.

  • Plug the cord back into the wall outlet (avoid using a surge protector for this test, as it can sometimes limit the voltage needed for the screen).

  • Plug it back into the printer and try the password entry again.

2. Use the HP Smart App (Bypass the Screen)

If the printer screen is still not displaying the letters, you can use your phone or computer to "push" the Wi-Fi credentials to the printer so you don't have to type on the small screen at all.

  1. On the printer screen, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings. This puts the printer in "Setup Mode."

  2. Open the HP Smart App on your phone (ensure your phone is on the Wi-Fi you want to use).

  3. Tap the plus sign (+) to add a new printer.

  4. The app should find the OfficeJet 8010 in setup mode. Follow the prompts—it will automatically share your phone's Wi-Fi password with the printer.

3. Use the WPS Button Method

If your router has a WPS button (looks like two arrows in a circle), you can skip the password entry entirely:

  1. On the printer, go to Network/Wireless Menu.

  2. Select Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).

  3. Select Push Button.

  4. Within two minutes, go to your router and press and hold the WPS button for about 3-5 seconds. The printer and router will "talk" to each other and connect without a password.

4. Calibrating the Screen "Hidden" Tip

Sometimes the letters are being selected but the display isn't refreshing the "text box."

  • Try tapping the Shift or 123 key on the screen keyboard first. Sometimes changing the keyboard layout forces the screen to redraw the graphics and start showing the characters in the password field.

I hope the above is helpful
