My Wifi connection just dropped one day and the WiFi Setup button is now missing. It says I have to connect an ethernet cord which I've never used and don't have a port to connect where I keep the printer. When I print out the Network Config settings it says that WiFi has been disabled. I've tried to reset to the Factory Default setting and the issue remains. Please help!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What's the Wi-Fi light status on the Printer(Blinking or Steady)?

While you respond to that, let's prepare your printer for a wireless connection, and restart the printer, computer, and router.

  • Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
  • Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
  • Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.
  • Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
  • Turn on the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Unfortunately, the WiFi Setup Icon is still not showing up on my printer screen and the blue WiFi light isn't on. : (

Thank you for posting back.

Let's restore the printer to the original factory defaults

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Printer Maintenance.

3. Touch Restore.

4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, I've already tried this as well. The Wi-Fi icon/setup option is still not available.

Hi AKZ15,

I think that it is possible that the Wi-Fi feature has transitioned into the Administratively Disabled state.  Can you try the following steps and let us know if this can resolve the issue.

You will need to reach the printer's embedded webserver.  Since Wi-Fi is not working there are two ways to do this:

1) Temporarily connect an ethernet cable between the printer and your router.  Use a web browser to reach https://<The IP Address of the Printer>

2) Connect a USB cable between the printer and a Windows PC or Mac.  Then install and launch the HP Smart application, the printer should show up in the top area of the app home screen, click on the printer icon, then on "Advanced Settings", this should take you to the Embedded Webserver (delivered over the USB connection).

Now browse to the page:  Settings -> Security -> Administrator Settings.   It should look like this:

If any of the checkboxes are not selected next to: "All Wireless", "Wireless Infrastructure", or "Wireless Access Point", then that means they have been administratively disabled.  You should be able to turn them back on and hit "Apply".  This should recover the wireless menu on the printer control panel (once the Ethernet cable is unplugged).
