Hi there @Ashlee12, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

If you’ve received a secondhand HP printer and are trying to connect it to Wi-Fi but don’t know the previous password or setup details, here’s how you can proceed:

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears any previous Wi-Fi credentials and lets you start fresh.

  • On most HP printers with a touchscreen:
    • Go to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults
  • On printers without a touchscreen:
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together until the power light blinks (usually 5–10 seconds).

Use HP Smart App to Reconnect

Once reset, you can use the HP Smart app to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi:

  • Download HP Smart: HP Smart
  • Open the app and click Set Up a New Printer
  • Follow the on-screen steps to connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network (you’ll need your Wi-Fi password here).

Alternative: WPS Method (if supported)

If your router and printer support WPS:

  • Press the WPS button on your router.
  • Within 2 minutes, press the Wireless button on your printer.
  • The printer should connect automatically.
