Hi @Stillk

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP LaserJet Pro 4001dw to Wi-Fi using your Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1, follow these steps:

1. Check Network Requirements:

  • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz (the printer supports both).
  • Make sure your Wi-Fi network is operational and that you know the correct SSID (network name) and password.

2. Prepare the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer and ensure it’s in a location with good Wi-Fi signal strength.
  • If the printer has a display panel, navigate to Network settings to check if it’s set to Wireless.

3. Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer’s control panel, press the Wi-Fi button (usually looks like a wireless symbol) until the light starts blinking. This puts the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode.
  • If your printer supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can press the WPS button on your router and then the Wi-Fi button on the printer. This should establish a connection automatically.

4. Use the HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store if you haven't already.
  • Open the app and click on Set Up a New Printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

5. Manually Add the Printer:

  • If the printer is not found automatically:
    • Go to System Preferences on your Mac and select Printers & Scanners.
    • Click the + button to add a new printer.
    • Select your printer from the list (it should show up if connected to the same network) and click Add.

6. Check Printer Status:

  • Make sure the printer is set as the default printer in Printers & Scanners settings.
  • Print a test page to ensure the connection is working.

7. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP Support website for any available updates for your model.

8. Troubleshoot Connection Issues:

  • If you still can’t connect:
    • Restart your printer and router.
    • Ensure that your Mac is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to connect to.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
