My HP Smart Tank 585 WiFi will not connect. It blinks and will not connect. Our computers and phones linked up just fine. I’ve tried trouble shooting but still no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Matt

Hi There.
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I completely understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Smart Tank 585 printer just won’t connect to Wi-Fi, especially when everything else in your home is working fine. You're not alone in this, and I'm here to help you get it sorted with care and clarity.
Step-by-Step Fix for HP Smart Tank 585 Wi-Fi Connection Issues
- Restart Everything
- Turn off your printer, router, and the device you're using (PC or phone).
- Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on, starting with the router.
- Check the Wireless Light
- If the wireless light on the printer is solid blue, it's connected.
- If it's blinking, it's not connected. Continue with the next steps.
- Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode
- On printers without a touchscreen:
Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together until the power light blinks. - This resets the printer’s network settings and enables setup mode.
- On printers without a touchscreen:
- Use the HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart App on your phone or PC: HP Smart.
- Open the app and follow the prompts to add your printer.
- Make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer.
- Avoid Guest or Restricted Networks
- Ensure you're not trying to connect through a guest or public network (like in hotels or colleges).
- The printer needs full access to the router to communicate properly.
- Move Closer to the Router
- Keep the printer within 3meters (between 10 to 12 feet) of the router.
- Avoid placing it near metal objects or thick walls that can block signals.
- Check Router Settings
- Make sure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled (HP Smart Tank 585 does not support 5 GHz).
- If your router splits SSIDs, connect to the 2.4 GHz one.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
