@Ewickham1

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What's the Wi-Fi light status on the Printer(Blinking or Steady)?

  • Could you share the screen where it's asking for the password?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

  1. Get the Wi-Fi Direct printer name (Example: HP DeskJet Plus 4158 All-In-One Printer) and password.

    • Printers with a control panel menu: Touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon or button  to view the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. Or from the Reports menu, print a Network Summary or Network Config page that lists the details.

Viewing the Wi-Fi Direct details menu

    • Printers without a control panel menu: Print a network configuration report or help page. The name and password are listed under the Wi-Fi Direct section.

Use a method to print the page that matches the control panel buttons on your printer.

Location of the Wi-Fi Direct section on a network configuration report

      • Press the Information button .

      • Press and hold the Wi-Fi Direct button  for 3 seconds.

      • Press the Wi-Fi Direct  and Information  buttons at the same time.

      • Press and hold the Resume button ( or ) for up to 10 seconds or until the report prints.

      • HP DeskJet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: touch and hold the Information button  until all control panel buttons light up, and then touch the Information button  and Cancel button  at the same time.

  2. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

  3. On your mobile device, download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com.

  4. From the app home screen, tap the plus sign .

  5. Tap Looking for Wi-Fi Direct Printers.

  6. Select your printer from the list.

  7. Tap Connect to the printer.

  8. If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi Direct password, and then tap Connect.

    Tapping Connect

  9. Wait for the connection to complete.

  10. If the printer does not automatically display on the app home screen, tap the plus sign again, and then select the printer from the list.

Selecting your printer from the list

  11. On the app home screen, select Print Photos or Print Documents, select the item you want to print, and then tap Print.

  12. After the print job completes, open your Wi-Fi network menu, and then reconnect to your local network.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
