Hi @mbdavis1976,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it must be to try connecting your printer to Wi-Fi and not even see all the necessary characters on the keypad; that can make things feel unnecessarily complicated.
- Are the missing characters special symbols, numbers, or a combination of both?
- Have you attempted to use the HP Smart app or a computer to set up the Wi-Fi connection instead of the printer keypad?
- Are you able to temporarily change your Wi-Fi password to avoid unsupported characters, or is that not an option?
Let's try these steps.
Check for All Keypad Options:
- The keypad on HP printers typically cycles through letters, numbers, and symbols by repeatedly pressing a button. Ensure you’re cycling through all available characters by pressing the button multiple times.
Use the HP Smart App or Printer Software:
- Download the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer. It often bypasses the limitations of the keypad by allowing you to enter the password directly into the app during setup.
Connect Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):
- If your router supports WPS, press the WPS button on the router and then select the WPS option on the printer to connect without needing to enter a password.
Set Up via USB and Update Wi-Fi Settings:
- Temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB, then use the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart software to enter the Wi-Fi password from your computer. This method avoids using the printer keypad entirely.
Temporarily Change Your Wi-Fi Password:
- If none of the above work and your Wi-Fi password contains unsupported characters, consider temporarily changing the password to one with standard characters. After connecting the printer, you can switch back to your original password and configure devices accordingly.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
