Hi @Gabrielajet,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve your issue with connecting the HP DeskJet 4122e printer to WiFi, you can try the following steps to obtain the Wi-Fi Direct password from another method.
Using the HP Smart App (Alternative Approach)
- Restart Setup Mode: Power cycle your printer by turning it off, waiting for a few seconds, and turning it back on. This might allow you to restart the setup mode properly.
- Reconnect to HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your device.
- Select Add a printer and follow the on-screen prompts to attempt setup again. If you still experience an issue, proceed to Method 2.
Wi-Fi Direct Connection via Printer Control Panel
If pressing the "i" button does not print the Wi-Fi Direct information, you can try these alternatives:
- Hold the Wi-Fi Direct button on your printer for about 3 seconds. This button is typically next to the "i" button or on the control panel (depending on the model).
- The printer should print a sheet with the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
- If the printer doesn’t print the sheet, check for a Wi-Fi Direct button on the control panel (it may have a direct signal icon or a small image of a mobile device and printer).
- Holding this button may print the information you need.
Manual Printer Information Report
- Print an Information Report manually by pressing both the Wi-Fi and i button simultaneously for 3-5 seconds. This often prints out the current network configuration, which includes Wi-Fi Direct details.
- Look for the Wi-Fi Direct details like name and password in the printed report.
Reset Wi-Fi Direct Password via Control Panel
You can also reset the printer's Wi-Fi Direct settings:
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel (X) button simultaneously for around 5 seconds.
- This will reset the printer’s wireless settings, including Wi-Fi Direct, and re-enable the default password.
Once you get the Wi-Fi Direct password, connect your mobile device to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct and try the setup again using the HP Smart app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

hi, I followed all the advice you gave, and without any results, the Wi-Fi Direct icon appears on my screen but it doesn't print any information about the password or name, I can't connect to any of the nearby wifi networks, it finds my printer, but at step 2 when it has to connect to the wifi network after entering the password, it gives me an error and asks me to either exit the settings or try again, still without result

Hi @Gabrielajet,
Thank you for your response,
Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps you can try.
Reset Network Settings
Resetting the printer's network settings can sometimes clear any configuration issues:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together while turning on the printer.
- Keep holding the buttons until the printer initializes and shows a message indicating that it has reset the network settings.
Firmware Update
Ensure your printer has the latest firmware:
- Connect the printer to a network using a USB cable temporarily.
- Use the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your computer to check for firmware updates.
- Follow the prompts to update if necessary.
Check Network Compatibility
Make sure that your WiFi network is compatible:
- Ensure the WiFi network is using a frequency band (2.4 GHz is preferred) that the printer supports, as some printers may not connect to 5 GHz networks.
- Ensure the SSID (network name) does not contain special characters or spaces, as this can sometimes cause connection issues.
WiFi Channel and Security Settings
Adjust your router settings:
- Log in to your router settings (usually done by entering the router's IP address in a web browser).
- Change the WiFi channel to 1, 6, or 11 (common channels for 2.4 GHz).
- Ensure that your router’s security type is set to WPA2 or WPA3, as these are more compatible.
Static IP Address
Assign a static IP address to the printer:
- Connect the printer via USB to a computer.
- Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant.
- Look for the option to set a static IP address under the network settings.
- Use an IP address that’s not in use by another device on your network (e.g., 192.168.1.150).
Disable Network Isolation
If you have network isolation or guest mode enabled on your router, this could prevent the printer from connecting:
- Log in to your router settings and disable these features if enabled.

Factory Reset the Printer
As a last resort, you may want to perform a factory reset on the printer:
- Refer to the printer manual for instructions on performing a factory reset, as this can vary by model. Usually, it involves holding certain buttons or selecting options through the printer menu.
Connect Using USB and Setup
If none of the above steps work, try connecting the printer directly to your computer via USB:
- Once connected, use the HP Smart app to complete the setup process. After setup, you can switch back to wireless printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
