Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610.  Recently installed a new router, printer won't connect.  Error report says I need to add the MAC address as a permitted device for the router.  I tried, but it is not working.

Tried to get help from HP, but the serial number of my printer is not recognized (that's weird!). Has anyone has similar issues?

Hi @JT306,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is an all-in-one inkjet printer designed for small-to-medium business environments. It offers efficient printing, copying, scanning, and faxing capabilities with enhanced connectivity options and professional-quality print outputs.

Verify Router Settings

  • Log into your router’s admin page.
  • Check if MAC address filtering is enabled.
  • If enabled, add the printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.
  • If disabled, the printer should connect without needing manual entry.

Reset Printer’s Network Settings

  • On the printer, press Wireless button → Settings → Restore Network Defaults.
  • This clears old router info and puts the printer back into setup mode.

Reconnect to Wi‑Fi

  • Use the printer’s control panel:
  • Go to Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your new Wi‑Fi SSID.
  • Enter the password carefully (case‑sensitive).
  • Ensure you’re connecting to the 2.4 GHz band — the 8610 does not support 5 GHz.

4. Update Firmware & Drivers

  • Download the latest firmware for the OfficeJet Pro 8610 from HP’s support site.
  • Install updated drivers on your PC to ensure compatibility with the new router.

Take care and have an amazing day!
